HFM BOCES
closes out 2011-12 school year
Leadership, commitment, service honored as key to successful year
JUNE
22, 2012 - At the traditional
closing day program for HFM BOCES, Board of Education President
Robert Townsend welcomed the administrators and staff, and
thanked everyone for their dedication and commitment to the
mission of BOCES.
“You touch hundreds
of lives each and every day, providing a positive influence for
those students’ future, Mr. Townsend said.
He went on to say
that everyone’s contribution was important, recognizing the
efforts of his fellow board members, the BOCES administration,
teachers and staff in successfully preparing career-ready
students.
Recalling the prior
year’s “perfect storm” of adversity for schools, Mr. Townsend
said that the leadership and collaborative spirit of the BOCES
and its component schools had helped the district “turn the
corner to a new era of education reform and opportunity.”
“HFM BOCES can be a
vehicle of progress” for new state and local initiatives such as
the Regents’ alternative pathways to a high school diploma
proposal and regional high school possibilities, Mr. Townsend
told the audience.
Closing Day
traditionally notes transition in the HFM staff, and Mr.
Townsend took time to honor retiring board member Joseph
Sullivan, for 30 years of board of education service to HFM
BOCES.
“We will miss his
leadership, passion and commitment to education, particularly to
HFM BOCES,” Mr. Townsend said.
Six staff members
were honored for reaching 20 years of service:
-
Susan Roth, Licensed Practical Nursing program coordinator
-
Glenn Marcucio, Career and Technical Education teacher
-
Lisa Malagisi, Alternative Education social studies teacher
-
Peggy Heise, Special Education secretary
-
Julie Blanchard, Alternative Education guidance counselor

Special Education
speech therapist Margaret Thompson was recognized for reaching
the 30 years of service milestone.
Three members of the
BOCES staff were recognized and cheered for their retirement:
“Your many years of service to our BOCES,
students and component schools are greatly appreciated. We are
truly a richer organization because of your presence,” Mr.
Townsend said. |
