Animal Science students from PTECH recently visited Dygert Farms Creamery, a 13th generation dairy farm, located in Palatine Bridge. Operated by Shannon and Robbie Dygert, the family run farm has experienced tremendous growth since taking over in 2009.What was once a 50-cow operation is now nearly 250 cows! The Dygert Farm, which began processing its own milk in-house in 2021, has been named a Dairy of Distinction in New York and has received several Super Milk awards for the quality of their milk! The students learned about the process that milk goes through from cow to plant to being bottled and sent to stores. After a tour of the plant, students got an up-close look at the milk parlor, calf barn and pens, equipment, and cow barns. The Dygerts also operate a self-serve farm store on their property that contains their products as well as products from other local businesses. Students were also treated to samples at the conclusion of the tour. We thank the Dygert family for their hospitality!
