PTECH to host Prospective Student Night

February 20, 2025 | Filed in Archive, HFM PTECH, HFM Top Stories

HFM PTECH, an educational program that focuses on developing students’ knowledge and skills needed for today’s high-wage, high-skill careers, will host a prospective student and informational event for current 8th grade students interested in applying for the 2025-2026 academic year.

The event is scheduled for Wednesday, March 5 beginning at 6 p.m. and will take place at its Glebe Street campus located at 502 Glebe Street, Johnstown.

PTECH, or Pathways in Technology Early College High School, is a 6-year program that incorporates project based learning and professional skills training as students work toward their 2-year degree from SUNY Fulton-Montgomery or SUNY Cobleskill (depending on the degree pathway) at no cost to their families. Parents and guardians are encouraged to ask questions about this important feature.

PTECH aims to look and function more like a hybrid between college and the workplace. It emphasizes individualized pathways to completion, workplace experiences, mentorship, in-depth project-based learning and real-world experiences.

The night will include a meet and greet with teachers and administrators, as well as an opportunity to speak with representatives from SUNY FMCC and SUNY Cobleskill. The team at PTECH will also review program expectations and give an overview of project based learning. Representatives will also be on-hand to help with the application process and there will be a question and answer session.

Only eighth-graders in participating HFM component school districts are eligible to apply to PTECH. Because the curriculum is structured to allow for acceleration into college courses, students must enter the program their freshman year of high school.

Prospective students are encouraged to talk with their school counselors for specific information regarding eligibility to PTECH. Information about the application process can be found on the HFM BOCES website at www.hfmboces.org/ptech-applynow/. Applications must be submitted no later than March 31, 2025.
