Ping Huang

Chinese teacher

Tell us a little about your background.

I grew up in a small village in South China. I went to Beijing for graduate school. Before our family came to the Albany area, we lived in Columbus, Ohio, for five years. I am now finishing my New York teaching certification and completing my master’s degree in Chinese Education from Clarkson University.

Why did you choose teaching as a profession, and what do you enjoy most about it?

My mom was the principal of my village school. Her passion for teaching and unconditional love for students definitely gave me lots of inspiration. I do think that’s why I wanted to become a teacher when I first chose my profession back in China.

From what do you draw inspiration in your teaching career?

Teaching in China, I found satisfaction in using my knowledge and wisdom to help students to reach their potential. I think that’s why I still wanted to pursue teaching in the U.S.

Why teach at PTECH?

As I said before, I was raised in a small village. Johnstown does give me the feeling of home. Also, the philosophy of PTECH resonates with my teaching philosophy: connect students’ learning to real problems.

What are some of your interests outside of work?

Our family loves hiking. My husband and I enjoy bringing our two kids to explore the world.
