The New York State Education Department has approved a search to begin for the next District Superintendent of HFM BOCES.
To assist with the search, the state has selected James Dexter, the District Superintendent of the Washington-Saratoga-Warren-Hamilton-Essex (WSWHE) BOCES, to work with the HFM Board of Education as a consultant during the search process. The HFM Board of Education voted to officially appoint him as the search consultant at its meeting on Oct. 29.
The approval of the search follows the conclusion of a required review of HFM BOCES that was conducted by the state Education Department.
According to state Education Law, when a BOCES District Superintendent retires, a survey regarding the possibility of reorganizing the BOCES must be administered to collect input from the component districts and contiguous BOCES before the state can approve a search for a new District Superintendent. Based on the results of that survey, the state has determined that no changes to HFM BOCES should be made and no further study is required.
One of the first steps of the search will be the release of a survey to identify key characteristics of an ideal candidate. The survey will be available online beginning in mid-November.
The HFM Board of Education is seeking a new District Superintendent to replace Patrick Michel, who retired in August. Anita Murphy, the District Superintendent of Capital Region BOCES, has been serving as the Interim HFM District Superintendent since Michel’s retirement. She’ll continue to serve in that capacity until a new HFM District Superintendent is hired.
