Applications are now being accepted for the incoming freshmen classes at the HFM PTECH, Foothills PTECH and Agriculture PTECH programs.
PTECH, or Pathways in Technology Early College High School, gives students the opportunity to simultaneously attend high school and earn a two-year degree from a local college at no cost to their families. The three programs in the HFM region use a project based learning environment, professional mentorship and workplace experiences to prepare students for their futures.
Students at HFM PTECH, located at Jansen Avenue School in Johnstown, can choose pathways in Business Management, Advanced Manufacturing, Health Sciences and Information Technology. Through those pathways they can earn associate degrees from Fulton-Montgomery Community College in:
- Electrical Technology
- Business Accounting
- Business Administration
- Business Marketing Development
- Health Information Records Management
- Health Studies
- Radiologic Technology
- Information Technology
- Computer Information Systems
- Web and Mobile Applications
Students at Agriculture PTECH, located in the former D.H. Robbins Elementary School in St. Johnsville, can choose from pathways in Agriculture Engineering, Animal Science, Business or Environmental Studies. Through those pathways, students can earn the following associate degrees from SUNY Cobleskill:
- Culinary Arts
- Ag Business
- Ag Power Machinery
- Ag Science
- Animal Industry
- Biological Technology
- Environmental Studies
- Fisheries and Wildlife
- Sustainable Crop Production
Students at Foothills PTECH, which is a partnership between the Gloversville and Johnstown school districts, can choose to attend either the Academy of Computer Science and Game Arts, with pathways in Computer Science and Business and Marketing, or the Academy of Health and Medical Science. Students can earn associate degrees from FMCC in:
- Web and Mobile Applications Development
- Digital Media Technology and Design
- Computer Information Systems
- Business Administration
- Business Marketing
- Health Information Records Management
- Health Studies
Eighth-graders in the area served by the Hamilton Fulton Montgomery BOCES who are interested in these programs are encouraged to talk to their middle school guidance counselors and complete the online application at www.hfmboces.org/ptech-applynow/.
Applicants must get recommendations from their guidance counselor, a teacher and a parent to be considered for any of the programs. The online applications must be submitted by March 20.
After students apply, they will be invited to visit the school(s) they applied to shadow for a day and do an interview. Parents and students also must attend a Prospective Student Night at the school of their choice. Applicants will receive details on those events after they have submitted their application.
Applications will be reviewed by a committee of school counselors and PTECH teachers and principals, and acceptance and wait-list letters will be sent by the end of April.
