The HFM BOCES Board of Education held its annual reorganizational meeting on July 5, 2023, electing officers and swearing in two new board members.
Board members re-elected Dr. Harry Brooks as president. Dr. Brooks is a longtime leader in the HFM region. He is from the Broadalbin-Perth Central School District where he served as Superintendent for many years. He has also served as Superintendent in Edinburg and interim Superintendent in Northville and Wheelerville. He currently serves as interim Superintendent at Schroon Lake Central School District. He was elected to the BOCES board in 2013.
The board also selected Matt Sullivan to assume the role of vice-president. Sullivan, from the Fonda-Fultonville Central School District, was first elected to the HFM board in 2021. He replaces former vice-president Jean LaPorta, who decided not to seek re-election to the board after 13 years of service.
Also sworn in to serve on the board of education were Dr. Paula Brown-Weinstock and Caroyln Wilcox.
Dr. Brown-Weinstock, from Gloversville Enlarged School District, is no stranger to education. She is employed as a professor of social sciences at SUNY Fulton-Montgomery Community College where she has worked for over 20 years. She also served as a member of the Gloversville Board of Education for six years.
Wilcox is the current president of the Northville Central School Board of Education. She is a 21-year United States Air Force veteran and is the owner-operator of Silver Maple Stained Glass in Northville.
Members of the HFM BOCES Board of Education are volunteers who are elected by members of the boards of education of the HFM component school districts to serve for three-years terms.
