Retiring HFM BOCES Director of Special Education Mike Jacob was recognized as this year’s HFM Service Award winner for his contributions to the organization during the annual Opening Day activities held on Tuesday, Sept. 5 at the HFM BOCES main campus.
Created in 1994, the Service Award recognizes dedication and commitment to advancing the mission of HFM BOCES. The award was presented to Jacob before an audience of HFM administrators, teachers, and staff where he received a standing ovation for his dedication. HFM BOCES District Superintendent Dr. David Ziskin noted the impact Jacob has had on the organization during his 31-year tenure.
“Mike’s unwavering devotion to the children and families of our region is second to none. Without his leadership and dedication the Special Education Program would not be where it is today,” said Ziskin.
Jacob joined the organization in 1991 as a speech and language therapist. He was then appointed as program coordinator of Special Education in 2001 before assuming the role of Director of Special Education soon after. His last day will be January 6.
In his welcome-back remarks, Ziskin emphasized HFM’s commitment to partner with and advocate on behalf of the component district communities.
After the Opening Day BOCES-wide general session, employees spent the late morning and afternoon in division staff meetings and trainings. An employee orientation was also conducted for more than 40 new staff members throughout the organization.
