The HFM BOCES School Library System recently welcomed library media specialists and library staff for a day-long workshop focusing on student learning and engagement and the resources available through a new digital audio platform.Four librarians sitting at a table working together

On Sept. 25, more than 20 school library professionals attended the training and collaborated with colleagues on ways to implement the newly re-imagined New York State Anchor Standards for School Libraries. The training was presented by HFM BOCES SLS Administrative Coordinator Kristi Beedon, HFM Library Media Specialist Tariyka Chaulk and Fonda-Fultonville Library Media Specialist Amber Smith.

The new standards focus on helping prepare students to solve real-world problems through interpreting and evaluating information from diverse perspectives. Working with their library colleagues, each library media specialist left with a plan to work with teachers and students as the new anchor standards are put into place.

Library media specialists also learned how to navigate and help students borrow digital audio books through a new digital audio platform recently made available to districts in the HFM BOCES area.

Through the HFM BOCES Instructional Resource Center, component district can now access MackinVia, an eResource management system, to access downloadable digital audio books. Students will be able to access the books from any digital device once their account is set up by their school library personnel. Both popular and classic fiction titles are available through the system.
