Adult Education Services

What is the cost to take a class?

Classes are offered at no cost to the student by HFM BOCES Adult Literacy are possible through funding from the New York State Education Department.

I want to take the GED Test. Why should I attend an orientation/screening?

The orientation/screening helps determine if a student will be enrolled in a skill development class or if they have the reading, writing and math skills necessary to prepare for the GED high school equivalency exam. Attendance at the screening is not a guarantee of placement in a class.

Is transportation or childcare available for students?

Unfortunately, we do not offer transportation or childcare.

Office of Adult Literacy & Corrections Education

The Office of Adult Literacy & Corrections Education provides a variety of services to adult learners at the Gloversville Literacy Zone (GLZ), Amsterdam Literacy Zone (ALZ), Fulton Academy (FA) at the Fulton County Correctional Facility and Montgomery Academy (MA) at the Montgomery County Correctional Facility.

Classes held at the Literacy Zones are generally intended for adults age 21 and older. Potential students age 18 through 20 are welcomed as funding and space allows.
