Applications are now being accepted for the incoming 2024-2025 freshmen class at HFM PTECH.

PTECH, or Pathways in Technology Early College High School, is a 6-year program that aims to look and function more like a hybrid between college and the workplace. It emphasizes individualized pathways to completion, workplace experiences, mentorship, in-depth project-based learning and real-world experiences. Students simultaneously attend high school and work toward their 2-year degree from SUNY Fulton-Montgomery Community College or SUNY Cobleskill (depending on the degree pathway) at no cost to their families.

Only eighth-graders in participating HFM component school districts are eligible to apply to PTECH. Because the curriculum is structured to allow for acceleration into college courses, students must enter the program their freshman year of high school. Prospective students are encouraged to talk with their middle school counselors for specific information regarding eligibility to PTECH. The application can be found on the HFM BOCES website at www.hfmboces.org/ptech-applynow/ and must be submitted no later than March 29. Applicants will need to create a user account before applying to PTECH. A link to create an account can be found on the application page.

The application process involves obtaining recommendations from teachers and a school counselor. Students are required to submit a personal statement and there is also a form for a parent or guardian to fill out. Interviews will be conducted at a later date.

A prospective student and informational event is being planned for February 15 at the PTECH Glebe Street campus located at 502 Glebe St. in Johnstown. Applicants will receive additional details about the event once their application has been received.

Applications are reviewed by a committee of school counselors,  PTECH teachers, and principals. Acceptance and wait-list letters will be sent by the end of April.
